Scope of Job: Knows and applies fundamental design concepts, practices, and procedures. Works under minimal supervision, and performs tasks that are varied and somewhat complex in nature. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines and standards to perform the functions of the job, which require a limited degree of originality, latitude, and independent judgment.
 
Job Summary: Performs product design activities related to the development, manufacturing, and assembly of new automotive lighting products in accordance with company and customer requirements.
 
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
 
  1. Works closely with primary designer, other designers, and design supervisor to create basic CAD data for automotive lighting products in accordance with company CAD methods, standards, and procedures
 
  1. Supports basic CAD revisions, including layouts and detail drawings, in accordance with company and customer requirements
 
  1. Identifies and communicates basic design issues back to primary designer and/or supervisor
 
  1. Maintains open and frequent communication with primary designer and/or supervisor on program status, open issues, concerns, and/or problems
 
  1. Manages time to complete all program deliverables on time to support project timing
 
  1. Performs data checks to information provided
 
  1. Performs all other duties as assigned
 
Requirements:
 
1. Meets one of the following Education and Experience requirements:
 
a. Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Design, or a related discipline, plus 0 to 2 years of CAD design experience in automotive parts manufacturing; OR
 
b. Associate’s Degree in Engineering, Design, or a related discipline, plus 2 to 4 years of CAD design experience in automotive parts manufacturing; OR
 
c. High School Diploma or GED, plus 4 years of CAD design experience in automotive parts manufacturing 2. Strong knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas:
 
  1. Knowledge of the design of plastic injected molded parts and their associated tooling
 
  1. Organizational, planning, and prioritizing skills
 
  1. Analysis and problem solving skills
 
  1. Basic CAD data construction skills
 
  1. Computer skills — proficiency using standard business software (including MS Office)
 
  1. Written and verbal communications and presentation skills
 
  1. Interpersonal skills — to interact effectively with individuals at all levels of authority and to maintain composure in sensitive, pressure, and confrontational situations
