Engineering Support Technician

Configuration Management and Documentation • Analyze, create, and process Engineering Changes (EC’s) and Engineering Authorized Deviations (EAD’s) on alpha released drawings and engineering technical documents ensuring that the release/change/deviation complies with department standards and practices. • Reproduce, distribute, and retrieve hard copies of drawings; manage electronic print files; and maintain the revision levels of the drawings/documents/data. • Identify inactive and active drawings/documents on a corporate master list, and supply appropriate revisions to manufacturing areas for processing. • Create and/or process new bills of material on the project lifecycle management (PLM) software system according to department standards and practices. • Assign new part numbers on the PLM software system according to department standards and practices; manage the item master information and report discrepancies. • Support Design Engineering by monitoring the development activity of initial new releases of product and accompanying technical documents. Schematic Capture and PCB Layout Support • Specify and develop schematic and PCB symbols; organize and maintain a centralized component library. • Support and interface with outside PCB layout contractors; participate in PCB layout reviews. • Perform limited schematic capture and PCB layout under the direction of the Design Engineers. • Generate and support the release of Gerber files and bills of materials to prototype and production PCB manufacturers. Design Engineering Support • Solder and rework through-hole and SMT components; perform manual assembly of prototype and pre-production units. • Perform basic electrical measurements using voltmeters, ohmmeters, oscilloscopes, and signal generators. • Support sustaining activity of equipment in the field and in house (manufacturing, unit, and system test). • Document and report on status and results of task assignments

Qualifications: • Associates degree or certificate; BS/BA preferred; or the equivalent (to a degree) in appropriate related technical experience and education. • 5+ years work experience in an engineering or manufacturing environment. • Proficient in PC use, including MS Word, Excel, etc. • Knowledge of ECAD tools for schematic capture and PCB layout, especially software tools from Mentor Graphics such as DxDesigner and PADS. • Ability to read schematics, engineering technical drawings, and electronic component polarity markings. • Strong communication skills; good knowledge of spoken and written English.
