Project Tooling Engineer 

 Objective of Job 

 Responsible, customer service and success oriented collaborative development of processes and tooling solutions representative of company core competencies. Must provide leadership in lean development from the discovery phase through mature development. Must ensure production feasible solutions are provided to the organization. Research of new processes and materials for continuous improvement and higher efficiency is imperative. Must focus to maintain cooperative development efforts for programs and to assure smooth transition of tooling products to production. Confirmation of quality, manufacturing deadlines, and cost targets (with purchasing) for injection molding (primary) and non-injection molding (contingency only) tooling for interior projects and programs is required. Minor support to electrical division will be required as opportunities are identified. 

Principal activities
  • Create project plans/concepts and assure they are followed (e.g. resource planning, schedule planning, cost planning, etc.) in cooperation with technical or key project leaders as well as technical areas; introduce actions in case of deviations, as required
  • Cooperate in conducting risk analyses
  • Develop suggestions for project organization; select suitable associates in cooperation with supervisors and define tasks, rules and interfaces
  • Assure compliance with allocated project budget and distribute to functions reporting to him/her (e.g. sub- project leaders, etc.); introduce actions in case of deviations
  • Act as interface between involved internal/external areas (e.g. key project leader, technical project leader, sub- project leader, customer, suppliers, departments, etc.)
  • Assure compliance with set project indicators/goals
  • Analyze and evaluate changes (internal/external), cooperate in negotiations (e.g. volume and costs of changes, etc.) and assure implementation
  • Create and check project reports and presentations, as well as project conclusion documentation
  • Provide technical leadership for project associates and/or sub-project leaders
  • Cooperate in optimizing/developing processes, systems and methods (e.g. develop process and equipment standards and improvement concepts in cooperation with the responsible central units, conducting lessons learned reviews, etc.)
  • Definition and implementation of tool planning and procurement standards in coordination with best practice(s).
  • Customer contact for tooling questions including costs (in tandem with purchasing).
  • Influencing part geometry and material with design engineering to ensure part manufacturability and adherence to plant standards is met.
  • Create and check tooling concepts and requirement manuals
  • Coordination and follow up on projects with tool makers
  • Coordination of tooling changes and startups
  • Defining process parameters and creating data sheets for production
  • Implementing new and innovative processes in tooling and production
  • Conducting capability studies for tool function
  • Performing first production runs and trials for tools (with process engineer)
  • Providing support for cost calculations
  • Tooling feasibility analysis (ex. mold flow)
  • Support in planning and implementing packaging concepts (logistics owns)
  • Supporting projects, workshops, R@R's, PFMEAs and quality planning
  • Support efforts to reach PPAP in a timely manner.
  • Evaluate viability and offer recommendations for approval/disapproval of tooling related ECR's.
  • Collaborative efforts with local tool room for troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Support adherence to the (Process Management) and SEP processes.
  • Maintain close interaction with project leads and program managers.
  • Leadership in new tooling technologies (ex. Mucell, Blow Agent, SGI, etc.).
  • Work in tandem with tool shops to identify best conditions for tool construction through mold flow analysis.
  • Facilitate continuous tooling improvements based on internal lessons learned and market research (Industry Standard Benchmarking).
  • Cost calculation based on RM (Requirement Manuals) – technical, price and timeline controlling at the supplier.
  • Utilize PLM as project archiving tool.
  • Weekly updates of department calendar, WAR and Process Recording.
Job requirements / Physical Requirements

Specialized knowledge /education:

Bachelor's Degree
Area(s) / Main subject(s):
· Technical Studies, preferably tooling engineering 

· Knowledge in machining and best industry practice tooling concepts 

· In lieu of Bachelor's Degree, (10) years advanced experience will be considered

· Able to lift to 50lbs (approx. 23kgs)

Work experience: 

(incl. any specialized experience):
  • Experience in Automotive Development 6-8 years
  • Process oriented thinking, organized, analytical, able to work independent as needed 3-5 years
  • Computer skills (MS Office) and ability to learn PLM software 3-5 years
  • General quality management and statistical test planning 3-5 years
